After last year’s virtual success and the on-site kick-off in 2019, this year’s 3rd JTBD Summit Europe 2022 on March 30 and 31 combined the advantages of both approaches in an interactive and smooth hybrid format. Around 50 participants attended online (via Hopin platform) and were characterized by a lively participation in the chat and during Q&A sessions. 70 participants attended on site and enjoyed the breathtaking view from the 35th floor of Vienna’s highest event location – the Thirty Five at the Wienerberg.
The two different Pre-Summit Sessions on March 30 provided participants in Vienna with a compact introduction (and a refresher course for those with already more experience) into the power of Jobs-to-be-Done Theory and how to put this mindset into practice with Outcome-Driven Innovation®. After that, Martin Pattera, Managing Partner of Edizon and Anthony Ulwick, Founder & CEO of Strategyn revealed latest developments in the theory and methodology (keywords ecosystems, sustainability and market definition). The first day of the JTBD Summit ended with an amazing four-course meal served on the longest (and probably the prettiest) dinner table of Vienna, giving the participants the opportunity to network with other like-minded innovators.
The main conference day was opened by a keynote from Professor Shahzad Ansari, who outlined not only the overriding topic of the 3rd JTBD Summit Europe, but also one of the most powerful trend topics in corporate strategies and strategic innovation: How to create business ecosystems and digital platforms.
The rest of the day was a varied mixture of project experiences, panel discussions and new scientific findings. There’s not enough space to deep dive into all these great contributions, so we highly recommend checking out Jens Jacobsen’s graphic recordings to recall key points of the discussions. Also, we sincerely would like to thank all the amazing speakers for their contributions.

After a wealth of concentrated knowledge, new inspiration and (finally again!) networking during the breaks, the 3rd JTBD Summit Europe concluded with a celebratory presentation of the JTBD Award Europe, handed over by one of the jury members Karl-Heinz Mayer from Eaton Industries. The proud awardees are Philips Research (1st place), Liebherr Transportation Systems (2nd place) and Motus Corporation (3rd place). Congratulations to all the winners!
Fully satisfied and with the feeling of having taken another step towards a more customer-centric (that means: people-centric) future for us, our clients and everyone interested in the great power of Jobs-to-be-Done and Outcome-Driven Innovation we are looking forward to the continuation of our successful event series. Hope to meet you again at the 4th JTBD Summit Europe on March 29-30, 2023 in Vienna and online!
